I just got done gazing at a really great landscape shot in a set of Tasmanian wilderness photos. It is basically a still lake surrounded by ancient forest and mountains. There is a quietude to the setting that I really find hypnotic. I can almost hear the bugs buzzing around the surface of the lake as birds swoop down to eat them, and maybe even a few leaping fish as well. This has been a fascination of mine lately, the idea of deriving sound in the mind’s eye from a photo. But, I suppose that is the job of any good photo, to transport us somewhere. Actually, this is a mainstay of great art. I am a writer by trade, but I can understand the need for solid narrative in art, whether it is a short story, or a landscape photo of a lake in Tasmania. Art has recurrent characteristics, and narrative is one of them, in my opinion.

Family, kids, friends and other commitments made it seem impossible that I’d be able to take guitar lessons as an adult. I find it difficult to say thank you. No, I don’t have a speech impediment, but I do have a problem being courteous.
